Shopping on Instagram is Here!
Yesterday, Instagram rolled out shopping capabilities in the United States as well as the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Brazil. Shopping on Instagram works similarly to Facebook where you can tag posts with products. Instagram, however, bundles these posts together and places them in a separate “Shop” feed which can be viewed from the business’s Instagram profile. You can tag up to five products per image or up to twenty products per carousel.

A really strong capability of Shopping on Instagram is that your potential customers can view pricing and product details right from your post or through your Shop feed. If your customer chooses to learn more about your product by tapping on the tag, they also have the opportunity to buy directly from the platform.
These feature rollouts to Instagram are powerful. Out of the 600 million users on Instagram, 80% of them follow a business account. Providing a simple way for your followers to purchase and interact with your brand can really help scale your business. In fact, some companies have seen traffic increases up to 44% from the Shopping feature on the platform.
One downside to this is that you cannot promote posts with product tags (yet!) but we can only assume this feature will roll out soon.
